Ink wash painting, or sumi-e, is a type of East Asian brush painting that uses black ink – as used in East Asian calligraphy – in different concentrations.  Emerging in Tang dynasty China, it, and associated stylistic features, overturned earlier, more realistic techniques.  There are some wonderful U-tube videos on this ancient art.  Well worth the search.  If you want to try your hand at this, we have some beautiful Hahnemuhle Sumi-e Paper in Natural White as well as the ink blocks, sumi-e sticks and Japanese Brushes.
